Review of .28 and .30 Rocket BB’s from Gunfire.pl

To be honest, we had never used Rocket BB’s before, so discussing this with Gunfire a few weeks back, they explained to us that they had “new and improved” Rocket™ Platinium Series™ BB’s and, were so confident of the quality, bottles of .28 and .30 were winging their way to us for an open and honest review by the Airsoft Odyssey crew. So we thought we'd see if they are deserving of a 'Platinium' label.

Rockets™ Platinum Series™

When the BB’s arrived, I have to say that I was impressed by the packaging. They were contained in a clear bottle, with attractive branding and titled “New Quality Platinum Series™, Double Polished BB’s,” along with colourful graphics to help them stand out from the crowd. They come in handy bottles of 3000 for both the .28s and .30s.

We decided to test both weights of BB’s in several airsoft guns, and over three distances, on a clear day, with little breeze blowing. The distances were 10, 15, 20 meters, and the airsoft guns used were a KWC 1911 Co2 pistol, a GHK AKMS GBB with an average of 650rpm, and a Cyma AK AEG, firing around 750rpm. To test quality, both rifles were fired in single and auto. The pistol was fired with aimed shots. The targets used were AIPSC 8 sided targets. We then recorded the results and photographed the used targets.

.28 aimed shot test
  • 10 metre Perfect grouping.
  • 15 metre Spread of up to 5mm
  • 30 metre Spread of up to 8mm

10 rounds were fired at each distance. 5x .28 and 5x .30 BB’s. There was only a very marginal difference between the .28 and .30 BB’s at 15 to 20 metres. The shooter was a 20 year IPSC veteran.

Quality inspection – After inspecting and cleaning the 1911, there were no feed issues or issues with residue within the weapon.

.28 and .30 aimed & auto shot test
  • 10 metre On single shot, all rounds fired within centre mass, within a 27mm spread. On auto the grouping will very good, but the spread was slightly greater.
  • 20 metre With semi, the spread was within 5cm, .5cm right of centre mass, with auto there as a very good grouping spread over an area of 10cm by 5cm
  • 30 metre With semi, the spread was within 10cm with a very good grouping, and on auto there as a very good grouping spread over an area of 13cm by 8cm
When this result was repeated with .30 BB’s there was no real difference in accuracy, but we did notice on the longer distances that the BB spread was not as far. It was maybe half a cm less.

.28 and .30 aimed & auto shot test
  • 10 metre On single shot, all rounds fired within centre mass within a 24mm spread. On auto the grouping will very good, but the spread was slightly greater, but less than that of the GBB.
  • 20 metre With semi, the spread was slightly less than that of the GBB. With auto with auto there as a very good grouping spread over a small area; again less of a spread than with the GBB.
  • 30 metre With semi, the spread was within 8cm with a very good grouping, and on auto there as a very good grouping spread over an area of 11cm by 6cm
When this result was repeated with .30 BB’s, again, there was no real difference in accuracy, but we did notice on the longer distances that the BB spread was not as far, and the spread overall was of course less than that of the GBB. It was maybe one to two centimeters less.

Quality inspection – We found no residue left in the barrels, and there was no BB fragment or other marks, damage or bb damage.

Assessment.

On our test, we found that the BB’s performed as well as other quality BB’s that we have tested in the past. They performed as well as, for instance, Blaster Devils or King Arms quality BB’s. We then fired off approximately 6000 rounds of .28 and .30 BB’s and had no issues with either the two rifles or with accuracy at distance. With both rifles competing alongside each other, we found the AEG won on accuracy, but the GBB won on the fun factor.

In conclusion, the packaging of the BB’s, quality, shape and toughness (we used pliers to attempt to crush them) were all up to the standard you would expect from a BB that has “Quality, Platinum Series, Double Polished” on the packaging. The tests carried out illustrated that they performed well alongside other quality BB’s that are in the same price range. Thus, we can recommend giving them a go next time you are looking for something new in your selection of BB’s.

Yosser says: Gunfire will be taking the Rockets™ Platinum Series™ a further stage with the soon to be released Bio's in this range. All these quality BB's in the range are made to some exacting standards with a 5.96mm diameter tolerance. Snipers should look out for the launch of the Heavy Series of Rockets™ PS™. in 0.36, 0.40g and 0.43g weights.

If your used to the quality end of the market in your BB's and use the likes of G&G, Xtreme & Madbull don't miss out on adding these to your kitbag, well worth it!
